Join Your Neighborhood ESV Team
Overview
Old Palo Alto needs your help. If there is a widespread emergency (think earthquake) we will need people to help their neighbors. Currently, we have 20% of the Block Preparedness Coordinators and CERTs needed to respond to an emergency. There are opportunities to get involved and give back to the community. Emergency Service Volunteers (
ESV) opportunities come in three flavors 1) Block Preparedness Coordinators (
BPC) take responsibility for a block or two. In an emergency they access the damage and can request help. They have radios that enable them to communicate with others and get help. 2) You can become a trained member of the Community Emergency Response Team (
CERT). The city offers basic training in first aid and disaster response. These are out local first responders and are deployed where most needed based on the input of the BPCs. This is a great opportunity to learn life skills while being there for your neighbors. 3) HAM operators can become Amateur Radio Emergency Services (
ARES) help in passing communications from the BPCs to the city Office of Emergency Services
OES.
